Capturing The Audience

Captivating and compelling your audience is key to success in any project be it film, music, animation or games. Without a supporting consumer base any commercial project is doomed to failure so how then do we capture our audience's attention.
A similar project to ours would be Outlast. a horror game with little to no combat mechanics relying on elements such as sound effects, lighting and environment to keep the audience in a constant state of fear.
similarly we must implement similar elements in our project to ensure players are kept in an uneasy fearful state an thus have a connection to the project emotionally.
using tactic such as removing power ie: removing the players only light source for a brief time, forcing a player to realize what they knew to be correct is actually false and removing any way to defend the player.
also implementing 3d sound and gore to maintain the level of fear we want in the player.
Removing players ability to defend themselves is a tactic used most frequently in first person shooter often pitting the player against the main antagonist early giving the player reason to play on knowing that when given the chance they will be able to defend against/defeat the bad guy as seen in almost all of the Farcry series.
thankyou for reading.
