Why Jurassic Arena ?

Jurassic arena is a means of self promotion a digital interactive showreel of the combined skills I have gained during my studies at SAE and is designed as such to attract employers within the realm of video games.

However in order to create something that evokes and emotional response from the audience we must have a driving statement or proposition some form of cultural and personal refences. So with that what is does Jurassic Arena say to its audience and how will I as a creative ensure the message conveyed.

World building plays a massive role in story telling and setting up the base for which the story and driving statement can be built upon. Within the world of games some titles use the power of world building to express their driving statement and rather use the story to compliment the world building.

being a short FPS shooter game with little story elements Jurassic Arena will use world building wholly as a means to convey driving statements, social observations and cultural insights. reinforcing this world building through asset design, animations and the games narrator/ game show host's dialogue.

A brief introduction displayed on screen during the start of the final product serves as the main source of world building places the viewer in the correct headspace to receive further story elements through dialogue and game environment. cultural and social issue such as

rising prison population, government corruption and populous control measures, corporate greed, and the worlds current addiction to reality TV

"In the year 2044 overpopulation coupled with corporate greed and a lack of resources has forced many into a life of crime. In an attempt to quell the rising number of people below the poverty line the global government introduced several new laws raising the sentences for petty crimes.

By 2050 prison systems world wide were at their limit crowded far beyond capacity. Government could no longer provide the finances to sustain the ever growing number of inmates. In order to keep prison systems operational they would be sold to massive corporations with prisoner rights completely abolished.

Prison 146-au also known as The Breach was now fully owned and operated by Edison, the global leader in science, technology and entertainment. having years earlier created the TENT (Transtemporal Entity Nexus Travel) a machine that allowed for temporary time travel.

Mere months after acquiring the breach Edison releases their hit tv show ‘Jurassic Arena’. Forcing inmates of the breach through the TENT back to the Jurassic era to fight for their lives against hordes of prehistoric creatures."

Jurassic Arena falls into the arena shooter Genre. Games within this genre more often than not lack and discernible story and focus more on frantic high speed gameplay.
